DESCRIPTION:The Ghana Registered Midwives Association (GRMA) will host a two-day celebration in Takoradi\, Ghana\, to mark the 2025 International Day of the Midwife (IDM). This event will recognize and honor the essential role of midwives in Ghana’s healthcare system\, particularly their contributions during times of crisis. \nDay 1: Midwifery Simposium\nDate: 5 May  2025 \nLocation: Takoradi Technical University \nThe symposium will provide a platform for discussion\, learning\, and collaboration among midwives\, healthcare professionals\, and stakeholders. The focus will be on the role of midwives in emergency response and crisis settings\, as well as innovations and leadership in midwifery practice. \nKey Focus Areas: \n\nMidwives’ Role in Crisis Situations: A moderated panel discussion highlighting the contributions of midwives in emergency response and disaster management.\nInnovations in Midwifery Care: Exploration of new technologies and approaches that strengthen midwifery in challenging environments.\nMidwifery Leadership and Advocacy: Discussions aimed at empowering midwives with leadership and advocacy skills to drive change in maternal and child health.\nGovernance and Support Systems: Emphasizing the importance of supportive policies and environments for effective midwifery care.\n\nObjectives: \n\nTo acknowledge midwives’ vital roles during crises.\nTo share experiences\, best practices\, and innovations in midwifery care.\nTo build capacity and strengthen professional competencies among midwives.\n\nExpected Outcomes: \n\nImproved emergency response and maternal health outcomes.\nStrengthened midwifery practice through knowledge sharing and skill development.\n\nDay 2: IDM National Launch & Awards Ceremony\nDate: 6 May 2025 \nLocation: Latter Day Saints Park \nThe official IDM National Launch and Awards Ceremony will celebrate the dedication and achievements of midwives across the country. \nKey Highlights: \n\nAwards Ceremony: Recognition of 23 outstanding midwives who have demonstrated excellence and innovation in their work.\nKeynote Speakers: With the First Lady of Ghana\, Her Excellency Mrs. Lordina Mahama\, as the Special Guest of Honour\, along with renowned healthcare leaders sharing insights on maternal and newborn health.\nNetworking Opportunities: A gathering point for midwives\, healthcare professionals\, educators\, and policymakers to build relationships and foster collaboration.\n\nTarget Audience: \n\nRegistered midwives\, student midwives\, and midwifery educators.\nHealthcare professionals including doctors and nurses who work alongside midwives.\nPolicymakers\, healthcare administrators\, and stakeholders supporting maternal and child health.\n\nTogether\, these events underscore the invaluable role of midwives in safeguarding the health of mothers and babies\, especially in times of crisis.
